What’s the best way to introduce ourselves?

-

I can’t remember the last time I introduced myself as a web designer. In fact, not too many of my friends know what I really do at work. They know me as a blogger or content creator.

I always meet people, and they often introduce themselves by their job titles.

“Hi, I’m LA. I’m an accountant.”

“Hi, I’m Ana, a receptionist.”

“I’m Lyn. Nurse.”

While our careers are important, your job does not define who you truly are. When you introduce yourself this way, you give the impression that you primarily identify with your role at work.

Well, you’re much more than just an accountant, receptionist, engineer, doctor, or businessman.

How to introduce yourself when you’re at a social networking event?

Let people know that you are beyond what you do at work. You can say…

  • I’m a dad
  • I’m passionate about tennis
  • I play music in a band
  • I love to travel
  • I enjoy watching Korean series
  • I love baking at home
  • I’m a follower of Christ

The more you describe yourself this way, the more you realize that you are indeed more than what you do at work. And it amplifies the energy in you to keep doing these things that really bring you happiness.

As a bonus, you might even make new friends who share your interests.
