Tigers, Beasts on Dubai Highways?

0
Another tiger in Dubai highway? This photo from Souq.com UAE Facebook Page is currently trending. For real of for play? Looks like a huge stuffed toy for me… Some kids has got a lot of time to play…

And here’s another one I got from DubaiParty.ae Facebook Page:

13 – April – 2011
This photo is currently circulating in Dubai Twitterverse. A tiger’s head is shown looking out from a black Range Rover. The photo was taken at an exit near Mall of the Emirates. Is it a real tigga or not?

There’s always something strange on the Dubai roads eh?

A Memorable Blooper in Dubai Dhow Cruise One Valentines Day

0

One stupid blooper lead into an ideal, fun-filled, romantic relationship.

I consulted a friend about buying the perfect engagement ring. After finding it at Dubai Gold Souk, I wanted to thank my friend, when accidentally I sent the “thank you for your advice on a good engagement ring” SMS to my fiance. I had no idea I did. I was just thinking of her all that time.

I met her that night. She asked me where I’ve been, and why I was not answering her calls. Alibi, I said I had a meeting with a client. She was showing a big grin on her face.  Next thing, she showed me the SMS I wrongfully sent. To my shock and disbelief, I almost fainted and fell down! My goodness! I wanted to scream! I just ruined the biggest surprise I was planning for.  I spoiled my wedding proposal!

It could be one of the funniest proposal in the world I bet. On that Valentines Night Dhow Cruise dinner, she’s makulit teasing me to show her the “surprise” ring right on. It was comical. Gone was the surprise element. I didn’t show the ring until we’re about to finish our food. I was laughing when I asked her if she (still) want to marry me, despite stupidly denying her a surprise engagement proposal. Calmed, she’s quiet. She looked at me, and she laughed so loud! I am stupid I know – but she appreciated the thoughtfulness. AND SHE SAID YES! It was a perfect imperfection – still worth celebrating a plan that (almost) went wrong. She’s for me.

On the morning of Valentines, I went to the nearest flower shop, got the prettiest bouquet and I asked for as much of those fallen petals on the shop. I sneaked in her room while she’s away, scattered all the petals on the floor; placed the bouquet on her bed and left a small thought, “You redefined my life. Nothing more I could ask for. I love you.” I turned off the light and hide.

All she thought I’m done with my spoiled surprise. But when she entered the room, she cried and hugged me tight. She told me, “You’re so sweet, now you got me by surprise!” I guess I made up from the wrong-sent SMS!

Ever since that day, our life has been filled with humor. It’s been fun. We always cheer up each other. And we’re doing it consistently. We’re on our 4th year now and my wife is pregnant with our first-born.

Burj Khalifa is trending on Twitter UAE tonight. An apparent fire on the world’s tallest building has caused alarm on the Twitterverse.  Some tweeps saw smokes; some claim they were from the Dubai Fountain though.

A tweet by @SCDxB though says that a fire broke on the 76th level and was already under control when the news hits Twitter.

Hope it’s nothing serious.

UPDATE: A Gulfnews report already denied the fire, saying it was a ‘Blackberry’ story.

Happy Feet! Penguins in Ski & the Mixed Reactions

0

Colony of Gentoo and King Penguins are the recent ‘expats’ creating a stir in Dubai. No doubt these snow penguins are really cute and lovely, but, having it in Ski Dubai received mixed reactions from the UAE online community. Many curious would want to have a sneak peek through the glass window at Mall of the Emirates. A lot are adored and can’t wait to have an up-close encounter with the penguins. Called “Peng-friend,” people are allowed to interact with the penguins, feel them and spend time directly with them in an environment that ‘replicates their natural Antarctic habitat’. This 15-minute session costs AED175 with 10 people max in a group; AED500 VIP option has a limit of 4 in a group and will get you free hot chocolate and souvenirs. Have these birds secure their working visa already? 🙂

Born and raised in captivity, the 20 snow penguins are part of a ‘world-class breeding program’ and have been brought to the UAE from SeaWorld in the United States. And there are many people and animal rights advocates who are crying foul over this ‘business move’. Penguins should be living in their natural habitat, they insist.

On the video above (by The National), the Marketing & Sales Director was saying something about “raising awareness about those creatures, and what the people can do to help, raising those creatures in a nice and safe environment…” that I don’t buy, quite ironic. At the end of the day, it’s all about the profit. At the end of the day, Ski Dubai is just expecting more income than in the past when they just have penguin statues to lure the crowd. Of course, it’s business.

Let’s see. If they really are employing scientific methods to nurture and care the birds, this couldn’t be that bad at all. After all, they’re with humans already since the day they were hatched.
