Over 400 runners joined Dubai’s first ‘social distance’ marathon

-

Over 400 runners took part in either the half marathon (21km), 10km, or the 5km races in Mai Dubai City Half Marathon – the first mass running event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event held at Dubai International Financial Centre featured a range of innovative measures from contactless temperature checking, no-touch sanitizer stations, and touchless water distribution and staggered start times to ensure the safety of all participants

The race route started and finished in front of the iconic Gate Building and looped around the picturesque Dubai International Financial Centre, providing runners with breathtaking views of the city’s well-known architectural marvels such as The Museum of the Future.

Promoseven Sports Marketing worked closely with partners and Government authorities including the Dubai Sports Council and the Supreme Committee on months of planning to ensure that the first mass running event this season met all the strict safety measures.

And the public can look forward for more events from hereon…

“It has been a challenging event for all of us but the overwhelming response generated by the second edition of this much-loved event for runners is sure to motivate us to come up with more outdoor community events that promote fitness and an active lifestyle.”

Alexander Van ‘T Riet, CEO Mai Dubai

The marathon was a success in many ways and the participation it witnessed is a reflection of the rising awareness on the importance of physical activity while giving high regard to the safety of runners, staff, and contractors.

Here’s what some participants say about the event:

It’s very hard, in the beginning, to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually, you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit.

That amazing feeling after finishing a race

I FEEL ALIVE! 🤩🤩🤩 That amazing feeling after finishing a Race! I can’t describe my feelings right now. It was amazing beyond words, the vibes and energies of all the runners! This year made us really appreciate and value racing again. It is such a privileged to be able to race again during the Pandemic. I am very very very grateful to have the opportunity to do it again. Last year same time, I did a 10km Race and my time was 55:53 minutes. This year, I had the goal to go below 1 hour understanding how difficult it was this year with all the lockdowns, quarantine, restrictions, to keep my stamina and fitness same level, let alone improve it. To my surprise I achieved my 10km personal best of 53:38 minutes! And the more shocking surprise is that I ranked 12th of overall 91 females! 😱 I am so proud of this accomplishment, I never thought I would ever be close to the top 10 finishers! This motivates me to push harder for the next time. Every thing seems possible. I can’t emphasis enough how the little things in the long run would achieve great results. Every little decision will make a difference from eating right, to the people you spend time with, to sleeping time, and to the things you feed your mind. Every run matters, every step matters, and every that extra push matters to become a BETTER runner (or anything you aspire to be)! BIG SHOUT OUT TO MY FAVORITE RUNNING BUDDY and close friend @sanabananaaa 💛💛💛 Really having you as a support is truly a blessing. Also, I would like to thank @dxbcityrun for such an amazing Race, I truly enjoyed it. Last but not least, I would like to thank my more than amazing team members of @530_run , it was really beautiful to witness everyone cheering, running, and supporting each other. Well done all on your accomplishments! A special thank you to @sameh.alzghoul for that last push! It is true when they said TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK! 💪💪💪 #running #runner #race #10km #الحمدلله

It hurts but feels good in the end

RACING It hurts but feels so good at the end At the start line you wonder if you will be able to complete that face, beat your last time or be slower. Then you start BOOM 💥 off you go. The drive , the energy the encouragement from friends and strangers along the way and the messages from the ones who believe in you and told you you could do it, keeps the flame 🔥 inside you burning to keep pushing with every step no matter how many times you wanna give up you just wanna keep going until you get to the finish line, feeling accomplished and proud of yourself. I reached another PB today thanks to @quookeruae completing my second @dxbcityrun at 1:32.30 from 1:40:20 last year. I love running Thanks to all my friends who believe in and support me.
