Practical ways to save money in Dubai without feeling deprived

-

When it comes to saving money, every little bit helps. Here are some of my tried-and-tested practical ways for stretching my dirhams further.

From checking store apps for discounts to redeeming loyalty rewards, these tips have helped me cut costs without sacrificing quality. Whether finding deals on clothes and toys or making the most of cash-back credit cards, these practices can make a big difference.

Here are my tips you could consider as “Dubai hacks”

1. Before buying at the mall, I check the store app for any seasonal discounts I could use.

2. I compare prices online and at the store. Sometimes, online shopping costs less (or there are promo codes to use).

3. I use loyalty apps at cafes and restaurants. I’ve already redeemed countless free meals and vouchers for my next visit.

4. I go to restaurants that offer free meals for kids (mostly on weekends).

5. I don’t smoke, so I save money in that area.

6. No Friday night drinks (Inuman is not how I end my week).

7. I arrange errands and appointments in one go to save on fuel.

8. I use Yes or ADNOC Rewards every time I fuel up, allowing me to redeem a substantial amount of fuel every year.

9. I also sometimes use Cafu petrol delivery app and take advantage of their bundle promos.

10. I buy clothes from Brands for Less. Hindi halatang mura, kasi nasa nagdadala naman yan 😆

11. I also buy toys at Toys for Less, and the kids love them. (Plus, they’re not growing brand-conscious.)

12. We switched to Viva supermarket for many pantry items and toiletries. (It’s easier to buy generic brands in Dubai unlike in PH)

13. I ask for discounts at pharmacies—it works 90% of the time.

14. I use a credit card with cash- back.

15. I buy movie tickets using a credit card that has buy-one-get-one deals.

16. I use Taptap Send mobile app when sending money to the Philippines because of zero charges. (You can use my promo code BOYDUBAI for an extra AED25 to your recipient.)

17. I don’t go to groceries when hungry; otherwise, I would put all the pantry food in my cart.

18. I don’t order delivery very much because the service charges (and the prices on the app) are quite high here.

19. If I need therapy, I check what my insurance covers to avoid spending in that area.

17. I follow money-saving communities like Dirham Stretcher, where people often share coupons, promo codes, and great deals.

18. I run or walk regularly (or hire a more affordable personal trainer) instead of paying for gym memberships.

19. I stay active to save on medicines and hospital visits.

20. We always bring our water tumblers when we go out to avoid spending on drinks (even in restaurants).

21. I drive with extra caution now to avoid fines.

22. I take personal time off on regular days to take the family out. It costs less compared to doing it on public holidays. Less crowded too.

23. We buy good second-hand items from Facebook Marketplace many times. MANY TIMES. (As seen in the photo)

24. Dates don’t have to be expensive all the time. Sometimes, we go on dates over Ikea ice cream, or on a single cup of coffee.

25. Pray before paying. I double-check with prayer if a purchase is really a must before buying. Conviction will tell me if not.

So, do you do any of these? What would you add to the list?
