Pupil Serves No Disconnection Notice, Bamboo Answers Questions in Dubai

-

Bamboo with Ely Buendia, Yan Yuzon, Dok Sergio and Wendell Garcia of Pupil gamely answers questions during the One Hit Jam Press Conference at Park Regis Hotel Dubai.

One Hit Jam happens tomorrow at Al Nasr Leisureland in Oud Metha Dubai.

Dubai never fails to amaze the group, though this time is kinda hoooot.  It’s always an honor for them to get invited and perform in front of their kababayans. It’s also and opportunity for them to introduce their latest and hottest hits.

The highlight was when the guests and Harris Dio Smith, the concert front-act artist, gave a teaser of what we can expect tomorrow.  Harris gave a surprisingly powerful Tagalog mini-medley of Juan Dela Cruz’s Balong Malalim and Laki Sa Layaw.   Pupil did the chorus of their latest Pusakal, and Bamboo strums the guitar and sang Questions. After that, someone asked their opinion about Philippine music as fading away from being “Filipino”.  “While some non-Filipinos like Harris learn and embrace Tagalog music, most Pinoy artists tend to do English music these days…”somehow missing the mark of the culture.”

Bamboo, Ely and Yani don’t see this trend as negative. They all agree that music these days should be borderless anyway, but that doesn’t mean that musicians are leaving their Filipino culture marks behind. Wendell added, “We don’t become less Filipino when we use English in music.”

Music is not only about adhering to one’s culture. It’s about being passionate at it all the time.
