I can’t remember the last time I introduced myself as a web designer. In fact, not too many of my friends know what I really do at work. They know me as a blogger or content creator.
I always meet people, and they often introduce themselves by their job titles.
“Hi, I’m LA. I’m an accountant.”
“Hi, I’m Ana, a receptionist.”
“I’m Lyn. Nurse.”
While our careers are important, your job does not define who you truly are. When you introduce yourself this way, you give the impression that you primarily identify with your role at work.
Well, you’re much more than just an accountant, receptionist, engineer, doctor, or businessman.
How to introduce yourself when you’re at a social networking event?
Let people know that you are beyond what you do at work. You can say…
I’m a dad
I’m passionate about tennis
I play music in a band
I love to travel
I enjoy watching Korean series
I love baking at home
I’m a follower of Christ
Read them again.
The more you describe yourself this way, the more you realize that you are indeed more than what you do at work. And it amplifies the energy in you to keep doing these things that really bring you happiness.
As a bonus, you might even make new friends who share your interests.

When considering moving to Dubai, Christians often have questions about whether they can continue practicing their faith in the city. The good news is that Dubai, which is predominantly Islamic, embraces religious diversity and is home to several Christian churches. One such welcoming Christian community is the Christ Commission Fellowship, or CCF in Dubai.
Christian Churches in Dubai
Dubai, with its iconic skyline and thriving expat community, may seem like an unlikely place for Christian worship. But in recent years, Dubai has taken significant steps to ensure that people from all walks of life have the opportunity to practice their faith freely. This includes providing space for various places of worship, including churches.
Christ Commission Fellowship is a globally recognized Christian church organization, originally founded in the Philippines in 1984. With a mission to make Christ-committed followers who will make Christ-committed followers, CCF has expanded its reach to Dubai and other emirates in the UAE. CCF Dubai provides an avenue for Christians seeking fellowship, worship, and support while living and working in this bustling city.
CCF: A place of worship and community
CCF offers a warm community for Christians looking to continue practicing their faith in Dubai. Here are some key aspects of CCF that may interest you:
Worship Services. CCF Dubai conducts regular worship services, offering a space for Christians to come together in prayer, praise, and fellowship.
Small Groups. There are small groups in CCF Dubai where members can engage in more intimate and focused discussions on faith, life, and personal growth. These small groups provide a supportive environment for building strong relationships with fellow Christians.
Bible Studies. For those seeking a deeper understanding of their faith, CCF offers Bible study sessions, fostering spiritual growth and connection with fellow believers.
Family-Friendly. CCF welcomes families and children, making it an ideal place for expatriate families to worship and connect with others in the Christian community.
Church service for kids and teens
CCF Dubai also offers ‘NextGen’, a kids’ church service done in parallel to the weekly worship services. There is also a group for teens called Elevate.
Volunteer opportunities
The church welcomes anyone who wants to volunteer their talents and skills for various areas of church services, such as music ministry, hosting and ushering, and live production works among others.
Once, someone asked me, “Why do you do so many things outside of your job?” My quick answer was, “I’m having fun. It gives me a break from the otherwise hectic daily routine of home and work.”
My long answer? Well, the hobbies and gigs I pursue outside of work give me the opportunity to keep growing.
Back in school, I wasn’t an honor student, contrary to what many assume. I never made it into the Top 3 academic honors every year. However, what I did get was at least one leadership award every year. Thanks to being very active in extracurricular activities. In fact, I was once called the “most active outside the classroom.”
But I wasn’t doing them for the award. Well, no one really cared about those leadership awards back then. I didn’t fully understand how important they were. Heck, I couldn’t even use them to secure college scholarships.
I was just enjoying doing them.
But it was only after I finished school that I realized how much those recognitions helped shape me into who I am today. I’ve come to appreciate how those extracurricular activities taught me invaluable soft skills that I couldn’t have learned within the four walls of the classroom alone.
So, it holds true until today. Doing other things outside of work gives me an outlet to pursue things that make me happy and avoid burnout. It allows me to strike a healthy work-life balance—the balance that lets me feel refreshed and productive at work while also staying creative and responsive in other aspects of life.
Do you also have hobbies or interests outside of work?
You might be wondering if learning Arabic is required to have a comfortable and enjoyable trip to Dubai. The quick answer is… NO.
Dubai is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world since it is a melting pot of cultures and nations. People from all over the world come to live and work in the city, which has a diversified expat population. In keeping with that, English has taken over as one of the primary languages in a variety of contexts.
English: The Language of Business
English is widely used in Dubai, both in business and tourism, which is one of the main reasons why learning Arabic may not be strictly necessary. The majority of the population of the country are expats, which is why English has become the predominant language for official papers, traffic signs, restaurant menus, and business transactions.
Yes, there may be exceptional instances where some people in the service field may speak broken English. Their English abilities, however, are good enough to understand, with about 90% being able to relay the message correctly.
Due to this, getting around the city and interacting with Dubai residents and locals is very convenient for English-speaking tourists.
When Learning Arabic can be beneficial
While English will serve you well in Dubai, there are situations where a basic knowledge of Arabic can be an advantage. Here are four:
Cultural Interaction: Learning some Arabic phrases can enhance your cultural experience in Dubai. Locals often appreciate when foreigners make an effort to speak their language. Simple greetings like “Marhaba” (hello) and “Shukran” (thank you) can go a long way in creating positive interactions.
Job Requirements: If you plan to work in Dubai, the language requirements can vary depending on your profession. Jobs in government, education, or roles that involve frequent interactions with Arabic-speaking clients may require proficiency in Arabic.
Getting Off the Beaten Path: If you venture away from the main tourist areas and into more traditional neighborhoods, you’ll find that fewer people speak English fluently. In these situations, knowing some Arabic can be helpful.
Navigating Public Transport: While most signs in Dubai are bilingual (Arabic and English), it can still be beneficial to understand Arabic numerals when using public transportation or reading addresses.
Language learning resources
If you decide to learn Arabic for your Dubai adventure, here are some resources to help you get started:
Language Apps: Apps like Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, and Memrise offer Arabic language courses.
Language Schools: Dubai has several language schools where you can take Arabic classes.
Online Courses: Many online platforms offer Arabic courses, allowing you to learn at your own pace.
Books: There are many books available on Amazon, such as Arabic for Beginners, which you can buy online in Dubai.
In Dubai, learning Arabic is not a strict requirement for visitors. English is widely spoken and understood, making it easy to navigate the city. However, for an immersive travel experience, taking the time to learn some basic Arabic phrases can enrich your experience, facilitate cultural interactions, and open doors to a deeper understanding of this incredible destination.

In Filipino basketball lingo, “Dayo” refers to a visiting basketball team eager to challenge the local team of the place they are visiting. In simple words, it’s an away team seeking to compete against the home team. On September 30, basketball fans in Dubai will be witnessing Dayo, as basketball superstars group PBA Moto Club plays OG Dayo at Shabab Al Ahli FC, in Al Qusais, Dubai.
What is PBA Moto Club
PBA Moto Club is a collective of former PBA stars who have ventured into moto-vlogging. They are presently traveling across the Philippines and other countries to play against local teams in entertaining yet competitive exhibition games.
Led by Rico Maeirhofer and Jayjay Helterbrand, the group has established a good following on their YouTube channel, boasting nearly half a million subscribers as of late. In their vlogs, they not only capture the excitement of their games but also share insightful discussions brimming with wise and, at times, witty takeaways from their basketball experiences. Frequently, their conversations are rich with lessons that basketball imparts to all of us.
Their vlogs lately are about Gilas Pilipinas’ infamous journey during the FIBA World Cup in Manila and the recently concluded PBA draft.
These guys are geniuses. If you’re a big fan of the sport, you would love listening to their analysis of the game—on and off the court.
Who are the players coming
Joining Rico Maierhofer and Jayjay Helterbrand are Marc Pingris, Mac Cardona, JC Intal, Doug Kramer, Jerwin Gaco, Willie Miller, Cyrus Baguio, Billy Mamaril, Ryan Arana, KG Canaleta, and an “import” from MPBL, Poypoy Actub.
PBA Moto Club is loaded. We’re talking about 2 PBA MVPs (Helterbrand and Miller), 5x PBA All-Star Slamdunk Champ (KG Canaleta), MIPs, PBA Mythical Team members, former Gilas national team players, and multiple-time All-Stars, among others.
Who is OG Dayo?
OG Dayo is no stranger to the spotlight. This team is one of the first basketball squads to document their provincial travels and games through vlogs. The group is composed of former players from Mavs Phenomenal Basketball Team.
Most notable on the squad is the newly drafted Kyt Jimenez, whom fans are looking forward to seeing playing in a Beermen uniform, albeit being picked 76th overall (9th round).
