Lavish Iftar at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek

3

A convergence of the hotel’s restaurants welcomed us at Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek Wednesday night. Right upon stepping out of the lift to the first floor, an assortment of dates from different countries and traditional Ramadan juices in their carts invite the guests into a sumptuous digestive indulgence. We were ushered to the bloggers table at Shabestan restaurant.

The huge Iftar buffet are grouped into sections representing cuisines from the Middle East and some popular regions of the world. In addition to the Mediterranean Arabia selections, Emarati, Persian, Asian, Italian and International have their dedicated food divisions as well.

There are live cooking stations for veggies, pasta and oriental noodles.

There’s also one for zaatar lovers. A chicken shawarma stand is in the house as well.

Asian Food was the “best-selling movie of the night“, particularly the dimsum station.  It took me more than 5 minutes to wait in queue for the Peking Duck rolls, but it’s worth the wait. Mine was crispy on the inside and the dip was perfectly juicy.

My dimsum plate

The chicken and seafood dimsums, har gau, siumai, and the steamed buns were very tasty. Whenever new ones are brought to the dimsum station, they’ll be gone in few minutes.

The sushi station offers variety of maki rolls.

After starting with Asian, I continued with Persian.

The hot-off-the-grill lamb and chicken kebabs suggest a feast. There’s also Mahi kebab which I tried for the first time and it’s good. It has very lean fish meat and doesn’t feel “fishy” at all, which is good for me 😉

An upcoming restaurant, Aseelah, provides a preview of their authentic Emarati cuisine.

Cuts of chiffon cakes, cheese cakes and mousse

One small room is allotted for the sweet tooth.  It’s a showcase of fresh fruits, cakes, tarts, choco and vanilla mousse, ice cream and traditional Arabic sweets like Kunafa and Umm Ali.

Caramel cream, cakes, dates and traditional Arabic sweets
More traditional Arabic sweets along with fudge and mousse cakes and dried fruits
My picks for dessert. Actually second plate.

Yes, Camel Milk is available
All these lavish Iftar is reasonably priced at AED 149 per person inclusive of beverages, and is available from sunset til 11pm.
As this is one of the most popular Iftar in the city, I suggest you come at the earliest to avoid long queue at the valet (and at the buffet).
Reaching out to the community
Since the virtue of giving is very much alive in Ramadan, and if you may want to help but don’t know how, you can bring your donations in forms of gifts like clothing or food items to Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek.  In partnership with Beit Al Khair Society, they will be distributing the donations to the respective sectors they are supporting.
Those who will bring their valuable donations will receive 20% discount on the Iftar.
For more info on this and for reservations, please call 04-2057333 / 7444 or visit www.diningdubaicreek.com.

So my baby picked one of these capsicum from the fresh veggies display
Next thing we know, she didn’t want to let it go 😉 munching it til we reach home.

The Largest Mall in the Planet, Mall of the World Dubai

1
Artist’s impression of the Mall of the World

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum announced that the emirate is planning to build the world’s first temperature-controlled city that will house the world’s largest mall, “Mall of the World” at 8 million square feet.

Aside from the mall, the ambitious 48 million square feet project will also include:

  • 20,000 rooms across 100 hotels and serviced apartments
  • Dubai Cultural District – a cultural celebration centre
  • World’s largest indoor theme park covered by a glass dome that is open during winter
  • Wellness district – catering to medical tourists in 3 million square feet area

The project will be one of many retail and hospitality showpiece developments for Dubai Expo 2020.

The Mall of the World is to be located along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Al Barsha area. Unlike the traditional western mall ideas, Mall of the World will boast a “retail street network” concept stretching over 7 kilometers.

The mall would also host the world’s largest indoor theme park.

A report from Gulfnews says that future tenants of the “Wellnes District” cluster will offer not just cosmetic and wellness treatments but top-of-the-line health care, including specialized surgical procedures.

Gulfnews report added that the Dubai Cultural District developer is eyeing for touchstones similar to what a visitor would see in London’s West End or New York’s Broadway.

It will have the ‘Celebration Walk’, akin to Barcelona’s Ramblas Street. There will be direct connectivity from the cultural cluster – which will offer a mix of conference, celebration and even wedding halls – to the rest of the mall.

Here’s a video presentation of the project:

Iftar Buffet at Liwan Restaurant, Al Ghurair Rayhaan by Rotana and How You Can Win One

0

Our pleasure to be invited to a press and bloggers Iftar at the all-day dining Liwan restaurant in Al Ghurair Rayhaan by Rotana.

It’s my first time in Liwan and I’m impressed with its immersive ambiance. Every corner tells a story. Arabic table mats, wooden camel figures, carts & pails of traditional dried fruits & nuts, exotic tea pots and colorfully glowing Arabic lanterns welcome guests to the lavish Iftar.  Some staff are dressed in traditional Arabic outfits as well.  The live Arabic musical entertainment completes the feel of Ramadan.

It always feels good to dine at Rotana. The staff is very friendly and hospitable. This funny guy below not just serve, but gives you trivia about the Arabic coffee he serves.

The buffet features a selection of Arabic, international and traditional Ramadan specialties.  I’m not really a huge fan of Arabic cuisine but what I’ve got on my plate was really delightful enough. Food is good!

There’s a cold mezze counter, a South Asian corner, Tandoori, fresh veggies, servings of maki rolls, and of course, a Shawarma Station among others.

The theme was more like of Pan-Arabian delicacies.

I was late to snap a full table of the desserts. But there are fruits, cuts of cakes, mousse and wide range of traditional Arabic sweets and dates which you can dip and top with different dressings.

Another good thing about Liwan is their Kids Corner. For families with toddlers like us, you can somehow relax while watching your kid play safe at the area. There’s also food for the playfuls there – chicken nuggets, hash browns and stir-fried noodles. There’s also a kiddie kit for every little one with coloring materials in it.  You won’t see many hotel restaurants this family-friendly.

The Iftar buffet costs AED 149 per person.  They also serve Suhour starting from AED 100.  Guests will get a chance to win daily with weekend stays and meal vouchers, or win the grand prize of 2 business class trips to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines.

For more info and reservation, you may call +971.4.2933000 or email fb.alghurair@rotana.com. Click here to learn more about Iftar at Al Ghurair Rayhaan Rotana.

A usual good thing about Iftar is I get to meet online personalities and fellow bloggers I follow. Lovely meeting these awesome ladies, Grace of Sandier Pastures, Carla of My Yellow Bells, Sheila of AB and Me, and Roselle of Kero’s Celebration. Thanks for the invite and for this Insta-selfie Ferry.

Behind the Scene Photos: Star Wars Episode VII Filming in Abu Dhabi

0
TMZ posted some exclusive spoiler photos of the filming of Star Wars Episode 7 in the hot hot hot UAE. It is scorching 50 degrees hot in the city these days, how much more in the desert… But, the sand in the photos looks more like from the beach and not desert though. The desert is set to be used as planet Tatooine, home to Luke Skywalker.

But here’s director J.J. Abrams had to say:

TMZ wrote, “Jedi sources tell us the new alien was manned by 5 men inside its belly … and was used in two scenes taking place in what looks like a Tatooine marketplace.”

According to the website, producers intend to use less CG in the new movies, instead, relying heavily on practical effects like the original trilogy which is evident in these photos.

Experience of a lifetime’ – this is how experts describe what to witness in tonight’s meteor shower. Named as Camelopardalids (after the Giraffe Constellation), spectators will be up for a stellar treat indeed.

The event is be hosted by the Dubai Astronomy Group tonight at Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa from 9pm to 5am tomorrow, Saturday. Guests are allowed to use the club’s telescopes to help them see the shower more clearly, and also see more celestial objects such as Saturn, Mars, double stars, globular clusters, nebula and other deep sky objects. 4 Things To Do Before Buying A Car

Photo from lifed.com

Don’t Pick the Car, Let the Car Pick You
Buying any kind of car in U.A.E generally, and in Dubai specifically is considered a hassle for some due to its complicity, a joy for others for what they meet along the way, and a hunt for the majority, where you have your best buddy by your side and you’re ready to take down manipulative salesmen who want to convince you to buy their “flawless cars”.

Prepare your baskets because I am about to drop in some knowledge. Luckily, for you, you got me by your side to walk you through the steps of buying a new used car, and yet make you enjoy your “hunt”.

DO YOUR RESEARCH
Never, ever walk into a dealership “just to see what they’ve got.” Before heading to buy the car, you have to read up. It’s like homework, and if you failed to prepare for it, then you’re more likely preparing for failure. You have to have the mindset to what you’re looking for, regarding the price, type and model in order to know better.

Maybe you would choose to go to the car dealers, or let them come to you by visiting http://www.carmudi.ae/ where you’ll find all types of vehicles you need and from trusted people and car dealers.

Maybe you would like choose a Toyota for its great mechanics, a Kia for its optimized fuel efficiency, or even a Chevy American muscle car for incredible engine power. This way you know where you’re headed and your brain will automatically gray-out the unnecessary car options and make your built-in Search Engine Optimization pick what suits you best.

CAR INSPECTION
Here comes the good part, even if you know nothing about cars, don’t pick the car, let the car pick you. Sounds strange? No, cause as much as you’re part of it, it’s part of you. Just like falling in love from the first sight, you gaze upon the car of your dreams and begin inspecting it from every angle and flip the hood open to see the inner beauty, and once you feel confident enough, take the car to the experts car inspectors and let them play their role to show you the pros and cons of choosing a car.

TEST DRIVE
Once you’re inside the car, phase out; don’t listen to anyone or anything but yourself and the car. Ask yourself, do I see myself driving this in the future? Test the car’s gear, break, and acceleration responses, take the test to the limits to see its true potential, do not overdo it though, and remember that it is a used car, so there might be some minor problems, but as long as they are not major, it is nothing to worry about.

GOING BACK HOME
After picking your target and being satisfied with the offered price, be ready to debate to save as much Riyals as possible before you present your cash, so you can feel that this car hunt was worth it in terms of search, price and experience.

If you followed this guide to the letter, you’ll find it easier to pick a used car from now on, stay away from the random Salesmen talk who wants nothing but your money, and listen to the sound of reason and the sound your engine’s chosen car, and to avoid all the hassle visit the Carmudi website as that will enable customers to easily find or sell their car, motorcycle or commercial vehicle online.

You Know You’re in Dubai When Work Becomes Pleasure With These Unconventional Yet Fun Jobs

0
GUEST POST –  There are a gazillion work options offered by the magnanimous city of Dubai and these job opportunities are not just limited to the boring construction or oil and gas jobs or with organizations domiciled within the Dubai International Financial Center. There are several other career options to choose from, some of them being highly diverse from the run-of-the-mill jobs in Dubai.

The following are some highly interesting jobs based in Dubai for which you may not need to have heavy technical qualifications but should be passionate enough. Let us take a look at the jobs that we would love to do and also get paid for!

Personal Shopper
Love brands? Who doesn’t? This is like a dream job for the fashion-conscious shopaholic in you. Many high-end stores in Dubai appoint candidates like you as their personal shopping consultants. All you need to have is fashion sense and the ability to offer expert advice on style and wardrobe consulting for particular seasons or special occasions. As a personal shopper working for a huge department store in Dubai, your responsibilities will include personally selecting products for their VIP Customers from
all over the world.

Food Taster
Some people live to eat, while some eat to live. If you take up a job as a food taster, you will fall in the third category of people who not only get to do both of the above; they also get paid to eat! Eating is a universal need that makes us work to earn a living so we can put food on our tables. But think about it, what if you made the meals pay you instead of splurging your hard-earned money on the same gourmet dishes? A three- to seven-course meal will turn even more attractive when you know you are being paid to have the treat.

There are several jobs in Dubai that require expertise on culinary tastes and presentations. These jobs are listed on various job portals and seek food tasters for their genuine and unprejudiced opinions. The demand for food tasters comes from restaurants, cafés and hotels. Even though chefs are present for this job, most food companies think it is best to take the businesses seriously and have another person do the job for unbiased feedback.

Other than being a food taster, one may also be an ice-cream taster or tea taster. For this, you will not only need to have a good sense in taste, but also a fair understanding of texture, aroma and appearance. A degree in nutrition or food science will certainly improve your chances in this realm.

Mystery Shopper
Can’t seem to get enough of shopping, huh? Here’s another job option for the shopping lovers. Many companies in the UAE recruit mystery shoppers to go to stores posing as actual shoppers. As a mystery shopper, your role is to analyze the products and services offered by luxury brands that are oh-so-popular for their snob-value, sophistication and yes, quality.

To become eligible for this job, you need to – love shopping, love shopping and love shopping! But wait, that’s not all. You must also possess an eye for detail and should have excellent reporting skills, apart from having a strong visual sense of luxury. But before you think of applying for this job, make sure you are well-versed with all the big brands and know how the brand names are pronounced. After all, you don’t want to end up looking like a fake high-end buyer. Knowledge of the latest fashion trends will certainly help.

Storyteller
In an age when kids are more attracted to Temple Run and Candy Crush than outdoor games and where iPhones and iPads have become the primary toys for children, it may be hard to believe that there is still demand for storytellers. Yes, it is true that conventional storytellers are in demand in Dubai and get a decent pay to read out stories to little children. Some storytellers offer voluntary services for reasons other than monetary while the others earn from it. Dubai offers several storytelling opportunities in nurseries, schools, malls, bookstores like Jashanmal and Kinokuniya, and special events organized for kids. If you take up this job seriously, there are chances of getting paid handsomely.

Voice-Over Artist
This job is highly exciting and does not demand any college degree for you to fulfil any eligibility criteria. All you need is a great voice along with the ability to modulate your voice, good pronunciation and the perfect diction. Once you begin surfing the job boards, you will find there are numerous job openings for voice-over artists in diverse languages, most of them seeking artists for a one-off assignment or a part-time job. Professionals in this industry can do voice-overs for radio, TV and/or movies. They may even lend their voices to mascots, cartoon characters, documentaries or any other
project where they need to record in the recording studios. And if you can manage to do your job well, you stand a good chance of making it a full-time job by taking up a job as a presenter or radio jockey.
