Philips Avent Breastfeeding and Child Nutrition Conference

1

Being into a lot of research lately, my wife who is due to give birth next month is attending the Philips Avent Breastfeeding and Child Nutrition Conference in Dubai. It’s happening on 30th May at Habtoor Grand Hotel Dubai. This event is happening first at Abu Dhabi on 28th May at Beach Rotana Hotel.

Being mom and dad for the first time, it is essential for us to learn more about giving the right nutrition to our baby. It is better to understand their real needs first.  We expect that all our questions particularly about breastfeeding will be answered in this conference.  We hope to hear a lot of great ideas especially our favorite and preferred baby products brand, Avent, is headlining this one. (In fact, most in our wishlist for our Baby Sofia are Avent 🙂 )

According to the event website, The event will be split into two sessions: the first is for mothers or expecting mums the second for healthcare professionals.

“During the morning session, mums and mums-to-be will be able to make the most of their motherhood by participating in breastfeeding and weaning educational classes.”

“These classes will be run by a midwife educator and experts in the fields of Paediatrics, Infantology and nutrition, and will help mothers to overcome any challenges or fears they may have with regards to breastfeeding and weaning.”

“The afternoon session is aimed at Healthcare Professionals and will give a deeper insight into the latest research on the long term benefits of breastfeeding, the latest vaccine technology and the link between fever and nutrition.”

Chatime Now in UAE; Surprised It’s in Sharjah

0

Yesterday we’re surprised to see our favorite bubble tea, Chatime in Mega Mall, Sharjah. In a blink of an eye my wife’s already in the counter 🙂 asking for her favorite Taro Pudding Milk Tea.

It’s the same great taste and aroma.  It’s not too sweet (as we requested) and the pudding is perfect! I never thought it would be good with red beans but wife insisted.. It was great! Can’t wait to go back and try those I haven’t tried yet in the Philippines. They have an amazingly wide range of fresh tea, milk tea, fruit tea, mousse, juice, smoothies, etc; and more enjoyable with their chewy toppings like tapioca pearls, grass jelly, aloe vera, coconut jelly, rainbow jelly, coffee jelly, read beans or pudding.

The smallest cup, 12oz costs from AED, medium 16oz from AED14 and the largest 22oz starts from AED16.  Extra toppings are available for additional AED3 each.

The size of the outlet is a bit off though. It’s a very small kiosk and only has a table in front and few seats at the rear.  Looks like they aren’t looking ahead to volumes of patrons?

They’ve just opened 2 weeks back.  The kiosk is located at 2nd floor, opposite Okaidi. Now it’s one reason to visit Mega Mall more often.

While bubble tea is quickly (oops sorry for the term) peaking in this region, I hope Chatime can get a good share of the market. I hope they succeed in introducing milk tea as a healthier alternative to frap and all that. The franchise is looking ahead to opening its first outlet in Dubai. When? Still uncertain. They also plan to open in Kuwait and Oman.

Visit and Like their Facebook Page to receive more updates.

Added (May 18th): We came back today and tried the pearly Taro Milk Tea and Japanese Sakura Sencha iced. Sencha’s nice – it is a typical Japanese green tea with a mild flavor of Sakura cherry flower.

Pupil Serves No Disconnection Notice, Bamboo Answers Questions in Dubai

0

Bamboo with Ely Buendia, Yan Yuzon, Dok Sergio and Wendell Garcia of Pupil gamely answers questions during the One Hit Jam Press Conference at Park Regis Hotel Dubai.

One Hit Jam happens tomorrow at Al Nasr Leisureland in Oud Metha Dubai.

Dubai never fails to amaze the group, though this time is kinda hoooot.  It’s always an honor for them to get invited and perform in front of their kababayans. It’s also and opportunity for them to introduce their latest and hottest hits.

The highlight was when the guests and Harris Dio Smith, the concert front-act artist, gave a teaser of what we can expect tomorrow.  Harris gave a surprisingly powerful Tagalog mini-medley of Juan Dela Cruz’s Balong Malalim and Laki Sa Layaw.   Pupil did the chorus of their latest Pusakal, and Bamboo strums the guitar and sang Questions. After that, someone asked their opinion about Philippine music as fading away from being “Filipino”.  “While some non-Filipinos like Harris learn and embrace Tagalog music, most Pinoy artists tend to do English music these days…”somehow missing the mark of the culture.”

Bamboo, Ely and Yani don’t see this trend as negative. They all agree that music these days should be borderless anyway, but that doesn’t mean that musicians are leaving their Filipino culture marks behind. Wendell added, “We don’t become less Filipino when we use English in music.”

Music is not only about adhering to one’s culture. It’s about being passionate at it all the time.
