Volunteer for Twestival Dubai 2011

0

Twestival Locals are run 100% by volunteers. I’m honored to be one of them. My designation is in the auctions. What auctions? Each Twestival is supporting an amazing local cause with 100% of donations going direct to projects happening in their own community. In Dubai, the organizers selected the Dubai Autism Centre as this year’s beneficiary.

The Dubai Autism Center (@DubaiAutism) is a non-profit organization and was established in November 2001 to foster a better understanding about Autism and to offer specialist services for both, people with Autism, and for those who care for them.

Proceeds from the auctions are going to the Centre. Dubai tweeps bid for iPAD2, Nokia and Sony-Ericsson mobile phones, Flip cams, hotel getaways, some artworks, and several other vouchers. All these, plus the generous sponsors enabled this Twestival to raise a total of $40,760. Du reportedly donated AED 100,000 for the cause.

To add to that, here are some photos of the fun on that night:

5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Miss Back2Backbakan Rock Concert in Dubai

0

  1. There will be 3 major bands from Philippines to perform live: 6Cycle Mind, General Luna and Rico Blanco
  2. General Luna is a rare, 5-female, rock band that doesn’t just play the instruments… Each of them could at anytime land a spot at World Supermodel or even grace a cover of a magazine. Hear them and feel how everybody’s saying that they’re giving the male-dominated scene a kick in the butt.
  3. Rico Blanco is one of the living legends of Filipino rock. He is a genius songwriter that brought numerous hits throughout the years since his Rivermaya days. He is one of few Philippines music icons that’s able to build influence and fan-base internationally – most especially in South East Asia – has sold millions of records. Today, Rico is also into acting – playing Lucas in ABS-CBN’s Imortal – top billed by Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz.
  4. 6 Cycle Mind‘s country-rock music is a reminder of our lives. They have given us songs that either comforts you or made you realize some of life’s principles. They can amuse as much as they can make you cry.
  5. We really miss great Filipino rock music, don’t we? Yes we do. What’s more to be proud of is these 3  bands are of world-class caliber.
So mark the date, March 18th, Friday 7pm at Zabeel Hall of Dubai World Trade Centre. Warm-up sets by JPG and the gorgeous DJ Jen. Tickets are reasonably priced at 95AED for regular and 195AED for VIP. Visit this Facebook Event page for more info.

Twestival Local in Dubai

0

Twestival Local is once again in Dubai. It’s happening on 24th of March Thursday at Intercontinental Dubai Festival City.

As some of you already aware, Twestivals are all about ‘Tweet.Meet.Give’ and that’s exactly what the last three Twestivals have been about.  Twestival Global held in February 2009 resulted in 202 participating and raising over US $250,000 for Charity: Water leading to 55 wells built in Ethiopia, India and Uganda.

Meanwhile, in September 2009, 130 cities joined in Twestival Local 2009  to support causes that were closer to home – in our case, Dubai Autism Centre. Collectively, over US $450,000 was raised worldwide to support 135 local charities. With the spotlight on education, 175 cities participated in Twestival GLobal 2010 in March 2010 and raised over $400,000 which has been distributed between Malawi, Liberia, Haiti and Burundi.

This year, we’re going ‘Local’ again and it’s now time to get cracking for the next Twestival Local scheduled to take place on Thursday, 24 March 2011. We’d definitely like to raise the bar and so we’re keeping our eyes peeled out for sponsors willing to support Twestival Local 2011 and if you’re keen to contribute in any way, do get in touch by emailing dubaitwestival@gmail.com.

National Paints Flyover – a freeride to advertisment

0

If you’re a business, you surely want to avoid locations that are famous for traffic jams – or maybe not. For National Paints, the hourly radio traffic reports really work for them. A flyover on the boundary of Dubai and Sharjah in the Emirates Road is oftenly referred to as the National Paints Flyover. In 8-10 traffic reports in a day in about 12-15 radio stations, their brand is always mentioned – without paying for it. They should be thankful for the daily jam in the area huh.

No McDonald’s Delivery Service in Dubai and the Whole UAE

0
Confirmed. I called their Sharjah office at +9716-572-5537 and McDonalds don’t have any delivery service in Dubai and the whole UAE. How can the world’s number 1 not afford to deliver? It’s not about a question of “Does the successful McDonalds still need to?” As long as the customers need and ask for it, why wouldn’t you give? I’m no marketing person, but I think they don’t feel the need.

So if you’re a die-hard for McDo, go out and leave your couch. Take the walk so you’ll have a room for the Big Mac you’ve craving for. So this no-delivery policy could be a ‘silent campaign’ to encourage people to move for the food and not vice versa eh?
